Logan Basic Technique in Chiropractic Care
Chiropractors utilize many different techniques to achieve wellness in patient care. I attended chiropractic school at Logan University in Missouri, founded by Dr. Hugh B. Logan. Back in 1931 he began utilizing and then teaching his technique later called Logan Basic Technique. This is only one of many techniques and modalities to choose from, but read on to learn why it is one important tool I keep on my tool belt. Logan Basic Technique emerged as a gentle yet powerful approach to spinal alignment and holistic healing. Rooted in the principles of balance, harmony, and structural integrity, Logan Basic Technique offers a unique perspective on chiropractic care, catering to the individual needs of each patient.
Logan Basic Technique focuses on the sacrum, the triangular bone at the base (where “basic” comes from in the name of the technique) of the spine, as a key to unlocking the body's innate healing potential. At the heart of this technique lies the concept of sacral subluxation, wherein misalignments or imbalances in the sacrum can reverberate throughout the entire spine, leading to a cascade of physical, emotional, and energetic disturbances.
The application of Logan Basic Technique begins with a comprehensive assessment of the patient's spinal alignment, posture, and biomechanics. Through skilled observation and palpation, the chiropractor identifies areas of tension, restriction, or imbalance within the sacrum and surrounding structures. By gently applying pressure to specific points on the sacrum and surrounding ligaments, the chiropractor initiates a series of reflexive responses that facilitate a gradual release of tension and realignment of the spine.
Unlike traditional chiropractic adjustments that may involve forceful manipulation or thrusting techniques, Logan Basic Technique emphasizes a subtle and gentle approach to spinal correction. By working with the body's inherent intelligence and self-regulating mechanisms, the chiropractor guides the patient's spine towards a state of optimal alignment and balance.
One of the distinguishing features of Logan Basic Technique is its emphasis on the relationship between the sacrum and the dura mater, the protective membrane that surrounds the spinal cord and brain. Through the gentle application of pressure to the sacral ligaments, tension within the dura mater is released, allowing for improved spinal mobility, nerve function, and cerebrospinal fluid flow.
The benefits of Logan Basic Technique for a chiropractic patient are manifold. Beyond the relief of physical discomfort and pain, this technique fosters a profound sense of relaxation, ease, and well-being. By addressing underlying imbalances in the sacrum, Logan Basic Technique can alleviate symptoms associated with a wide range of conditions, including low back pain, sciatica, pelvic dysfunction, and even digestive disorders.
Logan Basic Technique extends beyond the physical realm to encompass emotional, mental, and energetic aspects of health. By restoring harmony and balance within the body-mind system, this technique promotes a sense of wholeness, resilience, and vitality. Patients often report improvements in mood, sleep quality, and overall quality of life following sessions of Logan Basic Technique.
Logan Basic Technique emerges as a gentle yet profound modality in the realm of chiropractic care, offering a holistic approach to healing that honors the body's innate wisdom and interconnectedness. By focusing on the sacrum as a key to spinal alignment and wellness, this technique invites patients on a journey of profound healing, transformation, and self-discovery. I personally utilize this technique on many patients, and have appreciated the benefits of Logan Basic Technique on myself.
