Intermittent Fasting (part one)...Healthy?


Will I starve? Do I have to do it for 40 days? Can I at least drink water? Active Health Chiropractic can't answer these questions, only you can answer these questions. But lets define some approaches....



1) You can switch or alternate days.

You can eat healthy meals (no Viking eating) one day then fast the next day or a small meal the next day. This meal the next day should not be a high caloric meal. Nor should your day of healthy meals should you eat like a Viking. You’ve seen these Viking shows how they sit around the table, greasy faces, and eating turkey legs as big as a Volkswagen. So a sensible meal one day and cut back on the next day.


2) You can follow the 5/2 fasting rule

This means that you eat 5 days (no Viking eating) and then fast for 2.


3) Time-restricted daily fasting.

You eat normally (no Viking eating), but only within an 8 hour period. For example, you eat breakfast at 7:00 in the morning. You then have until 3:00 in the afternoon to eat lunch. You skip dinner. If you skip breakfast and eat lunch at 12:30 p.m., you have until 8:30 p.m. to eat dinner.


There are benefits to intermittent fasting which we will discuss next week. To capitalize on these benefits, our bodies need to undergo some changes which the above suggestions will facilitate.
